Hey everyone! Today’s post is a little more personal and I’m excited to share with all of you some new and big things that have been happening in my life the past few weeks. I’ve been taking the last year or so to figure out my career and what I really want to do with my life, and within the last month I’ve taken steps to narrow down that path.
As you all know, I started Harmonious Union Events just over a year ago, after deciding it was time to start dabbling in the wedding business and being my own boss. Well, 14 months and 5 weddings later (with 9 more to come this year) I couldn’t be happier. Going into this I had no idea what was going to happen. I didn’t know if it would be a total bust or take off like crazy. I can say with confidence now that it’s somewhere in between, which is exactly where I want it to be. It’s been the right amount of extra work to keep me happy, but also not overwhelming at the same time. I’m excited to see where it continues to go!
About a month ago, I also left the position I held for nearly 4 years at Madison Children’s Museum. I owe a lot to MCM. They provided me with my first job out of college and a few more since then. A major chance was taken on me in my final position, as I was hired with only a few tiny nonprofit events under my belt. The job itself was risky, being created brand new with the hope of increased revenue, but no idea what it would look like. I enjoyed meeting each challenge the best I could, and the surprises were figured out along the way. I got to work with hundreds of different people, built amazing networks, and ultimately figured out more of what my path was. It was a perfect fit for that stage of my career and I will always appreciate that.
So what’s the new job you ask? Well, it’s something TOTALLY different but equally great. I accepted a position as Executive Assistant at Egg Innovations, a cage free egg company focused on animal welfare and in their own words “letting chickens be chickens”. In addition its great values, something else I am excited for is the workload that comes along with it. There is a lot of project management, with many of the tasks changing week to week, a perfect fit for me. The job is also entirely remote, which allows me more time to work on HUE simultaneously. How did I land this gig? My boss is actually my father, a talented man and inspiration for starting my own business. He and I have a great working relationship and I’m excited to continue to learn more from him over time. Wish me luck!
